Award-Winning Costume Designers Will Re-Imagine the Iconic LACOSTE Polo for Women; Creations to be Displayed at the Awards Gala

LACOSTE, a long-time supporter of the Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA), returns for the second year in a row as Presenting Sponsor.  The star-studded Awards gala, to be hosted by television and film actress, Jane Lynch, will take place on the evening of February 21, 2012 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The LACOSTE brand embodies classic elegance from the depth of its core, always displaying its own style, optimism, joyfulness, spontaneity, and authenticity.  In keeping true to that philosophy, the LACOSTE SPOTLIGHT AWARD honors an actor whose talent and career personifies an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design.

This year’s LACOSTE SPOTLIGHT AWARD will be presented to talented screen and stage actress Kate Beckinsale, who has proven her versatility with performances that extend across a wide range of roles and genres. Such independent films and television projects include: Much Ado About Nothing, Emma, Cold Comfort Farm, Laurel Canyon, Last Days of Disco and Snow Angels; action roles in Van Helsing and the Underworld franchise and Beckinsale is recognized for acclaimed performances in such works as Pearl Harbor, Serendipity, The Aviator and Nothing But The Truth. Her next onscreen appearance will be in the sci-fi action remake Total Recall, due for release in the summer of 2012.

In honor of LACOSTE creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista and the renewed focus on its women’s collections, the brand has dubbed 2012 the ‘Year of Woman.’  Inspired by the creativity, energy and enthusiasm that costume designers bring to their unique and important work, LACOSTE has invited a group of 20 to “re-imagine” the iconic LACOSTE polo shirt for women.  Participating costume designers include: Amy Westcott, Ane Crabtree, Arianne Philips, Carol Ramsey, Ellen Mirojnick, Erin Benach, Jill Ohanneson, Julie Bennett Moss, Karen Patch, Kirston Leigh Mann, Sal Perez and Wendy Chuck.

Their inspiring and innovative creations will be showcased at the reception of the Costume Designers Guild Awards on February 21, 2012 and will ultimately be auctioned off to benefit a charity partner of the Guild.
