Bold colors, texture and hand-painted prints were the stars at Lyn Devon’s presentation at the W Hotel Times Square during New York Fashion Week. Devon, who was at the presentation, explained her inspiration and mentioned that she used to work at Ralph Lauren in the womenswear department.

The prints used throughout the collection were hand painted by an artist who’s a good friend of Devon. They met while at Ralph Lauren. The original paintings of the prints were done in large-scale frames, however they were shrunken down and printed on fabric specifically for the collection. The prints had geometric references, and if one looked closely, the outlining of the brush strokes was visible.

Devon smartly used a mixture of textures, such as raffia and leather, on specific pieces like the above cutout knee length dress in a vibrant yellow.  Polka dots were present in navy and beige, which shows the continuation of the polka dot trend that was initiated last season by Marc Jacobs.

Standout colors such as orange, yellow, cobalt blue, silver and light green were used in various pieces, including a floor-length silver dress with a green underlay that caught my eye and was one of my favorite pieces from the collection. Details such as pockets, zippers and buttons added a modernized touch to this 70s reminiscent collection and made the pieces practical for the everyday woman.

Devon also introduced her first collaborative accessories collection that included leather belts, cuffs and clutches. Overall, it was a well-made and thought-out collection that fully embodied the colorful mood for Spring 2012.
