Gems And Jewels iPad App Is A True Dazzler
Out of all the gems in the world, the Gems and Jewels iPad app is a true dazzler. The developers of The Elements and Solar System for iPad teamed up with the University of Chicago Press and Field Museum of Natural History to make this popular Gems and Jewels app.
The man behind it all is Lance Grande, senior vice president and head of Collections and Research at The Field Museum, as well as curator in the museum’s Department of Geology. This man has written over 100 scientific books and knows pretty much everything about gems, stones, and jewels. Touch Press showed the app, which was inspired by the book, Gems and Gemstones: Timeless Natural Beauty of the Mineral World.
The app made iPad App Of The Week, and gives you the chance to see over 300 of the multifaceted spectacular objects from all different angles as if you were holding them. Touch Press says that you can look at “an Etruscan Gold necklace from Italy, an 8 carat black Diamond, and the Aztec Sun-god Opal, carved in the 16th century.” The App gives everyone the opportunity to view each jewel closely and zoom in to see the exquisite details.
Each gem, stone, and jewel is described via an in-depth caption as well as scientific date from Wolfram Alpha. This scientific date includes things from the group they belong in, the hardness and chemical compound of each individual stone. The App also lets you learn about around how much each gem would cost and the origin of where it came from.
The Gems and Jewels app is available in the iTunes App Store for $13.99.
