GroupMe: The New Way To Text

Submitted by on 05/26/2011 – 5:45 AMNo Comment | 1,261 views

GroupMe just might beat all the popular messaging apps due to its easy group texting abilities.  Their goal is to make sure people have quick access to the most important people in their lives.

GroupMe was founded by both Jared Hecht and Steve Martocci in 2010, but this app was mainly inspired by a project conceived at the ‘TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon‘.  Their free group messaging is just like a private chat room, but works on every type of mobile phone.  This app now features location sharing, inline photo sharing, and so much more.

GroupMe says, “It’s your real-life network, in your pocket. It’s totally free and works on every phone.”

The app offers several useful features.  In the Group Messaging area, you can start groups with the people already saved in your contacts. Also, when you send a message, everyone instantly receives it — and there is no hassle.  Utilizing the Conference Call function, you can receive a specific number making the conference private.  Using the Location tool, you can share with friends where you are and what it is that you are doing, any time of the day.  GroupMe’s Photo Sharing feature allows you to capture all of the best moments and easily share them with your loved ones.

GroupMe is such a handy app to have on your phone, and truly won’t disappoint.  It’s like Twitter, FourSquare, Instagram, and textPlus all in one!
