The Fashion Therapist On: When We Meet Our Muses
After wrapping up the post on 5 Behavioral Needs Brands Must Understand About Their Customers, I couldn’t help but see the When Tommy Met Anna exhibition through my therapist lens. As an ex-therapist working in fashion, I joke that I analyze fashion people. But, there is truth in that. Thanks to the Internet, fashion people seem more fantastical than ever. So one could not blame a fashion therapist for practicing her craft.
Our favorite fashion people use blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram and countless other platforms to promote themselves and connect with their fans. If you follow fashion, then you have surely heard of both Anna Dello Russo and Tommy Ton. However, you might just be hearing about the fashionable friendship that has developed between the flamboyant editor at large of Vogue Nippon and the world renowned fashion photographer/blogger.
The When Tommy Met Anna story tells the tale of a quiet, emerging street style photographer, who after several seasons, becomes a very close friend to a woman whom he had once regarded as an untouchable style icon. It’s a real life story that holds beauty, glamour, success, mystery, humor, hopes, dreams, and so many other little things that people–especially fashion people–can relate to.
It’s one of those “happily ever after” tales that makes people feel happy and hopeful about their own lives. This exhibition helps people–specifically fashion photographers and bloggers–see that thanks to the Internet and a lot of determination, anything can happen.
“Last season, at Dior…she was wearing this Roksanda Ilincic big-shouldered feather jacket. When she wore it, it was really windy. The wind was blowing up the feathers and she said, ‘Tommy, Tommy, I’m flying!’” — Tommy Ton on his friendship with Anna Dello Russo in an interview with Style.com
When we meet our muses, we are transformed. Our dreams become realities…and sometimes those realities are very much like dreams.
