Andrea Linett New Creative Director For eBay Fashion
Andrea Linett, co-founder and former Creative Director of Lucky magazine was named Creative Director of eBay Fashion at the start of the new year.
Linett is a fashion publishing innovator and style luminary with over 20 years experience in the fashion industry. Linett will drive the creative vision for the company’s multibillion-dollar fashion business and will be responsible for advancing the image, voice and editorial style for the Marketplace’s clothing, shoes and accessories category.
Linett recently told the New York Times that five years ago, she won an auction on eBay for a Hermès Medor Watch, which she paid only one quarter of the original price for. With luxe offerings like that in mind, Linett hopes to replace eBay Fashion’s current cluttered garage sale feel with a magazine-like aesthetic, bringing it into 2011.
eBay may have taken a leaf out of Gilt Groupe’s book — the chapter entitled, “Start 2011 By Hiring High Profile Employees.” But, it’s more likely that the global mobile commerce leader realized it couldn’t let another year go by without a serious style intervention for its site, which is the world’s largest online marketplace.
This, quite simply, will not do:
With more than $5 billion in gross merchandise volume worldwide annually and 10 million active fashion shoppers in the U.S., eBay Fashion is a leading online destination for clothing, shoes and accessories. eBay features 20 million average daily fashion listings, offering buyers a broad selection at great value. Linett has big plans for eBay fashion, starting with Derek Lam’s ready-to-wear collection of original designs, which we’ve been waiting for since October. We can’t wait to see what will be next for the e-commerce giant, but we really hope that the fashion section face lift is at the top of the to do list.

ebay has been a fashion gem for me for vintage, wholesale, international designers. I'm interested to see how it changes as fashion becomes more mainstream on the site.
With some patience, it really can turn up some treasures. It sounds like Linett has the experience & vision necessary for a fashionable overhaul. Will be interested to see what she comes up with, too.
