During the Afingo Behind The Seams conference in Los Angeles, Erin Weinger, the publisher of Style Section LA was part of the event’s trends and fashion forecasting panel.

During the session, Erin shared some amazing insights on fashion and style forecasting that I think all novice to professional bloggers could learn from. While I’d love to call this piece, “Why I Love Erin Weinger,” it’s better to call it:

Finding Your Zeitgeist – In The Streets Or In The Digital World

Insights From Erin Weinger

Inspiration is everywhere. When it comes to Zietgeist – it’s what’s in the air to how fashion is translated from Runway to Reality. FIND you own voice. People don’t gravitate towards people who are wishy-washy; they gravitate towards those with strong voices. Those with strong voices and big vision in fashion are the most successful.

Always be open to new possibilities, and you’ll never lose your edge. I think of Iris Apfel, “Everything important that I’ve ever done has come from the gut.”

At 54, your hopes and dreams become senseless and profound. Does age impact trend/taste? – Michael Segal to Erin Wienger

If you have good taste, you have good taste! Whether it’s Tavi or Jane Pratt,  age is irrelevant. Tavi  is a funny little 14 year old who dresses 97.

As a writer, I have a furious curiosity; I look for things in unexpected places. You have to know your audience:  Who are you writing for? Who are you talking to?  Who are you marketing to?

Fashion is about reinterpreting what’s been done and accessorizing it in a new way.  The classics survive, but the question is how to make this endure. If you’re starting a line, don’t you want your brand to transcend fast trend?

The sames principal can be applied to style blogs – how do some blogger just “get” it? Well, the work to constantly refine they’re craft.

Do you want to march to the beat of your own drum and be memorable, or do you want to be just like everyone else? – Macala
