ASOS Turns Down MARKETPLACE Applicants
According to British e-tailer ASOS, most of the brands, designers and retailers who applied to start shops in the ASOS Marketplace were turned down.
ASOS’ E-commerce Director James Hart told Drapers that only 5% of those who applied to join the site were accepted.
Hart said Marketplace “wasn’t a numbers game” for ASOS and added that the e-tailer had received “hundreds” of submissions to join the site since the concept was introduced to the market in August.
A number of factors were behind the rejections, including the inability to successfully fulfill orders.
“Sellers need to be able to run a credible store. It needs to have a range rather than just four items and it needs to deliver customer service. This means responding to customers quickly and supplying packaging with goods.” – Hart
The e-tailer also unveiled Fashion Finder, a website that will flag up the latest trends to consumers. It will launch on ASOS’ main site before year-end.
