817 SoLA: Fashionable Foodie – CupcakeCamp LA

In the past year, we’ve brought you FashionCamp, an event that evolved into RetailCamp.

The models for these events were based on Barcamp, the technology’s favorite form of get-together. During these “unconferences,” industry professionals gather in an open forum to talk about what’s next in their areas of expertise and industries.

This past weekend, my dear Twitter/Facebook friend Babette (founder of Bakespace.com) launched the Los Angeles area’s first ever Cupcake Camp. Yeah, that what I said, CUPCAKES.

Consumers are obsessed with these mini decadent delights; cupcakes have spawned a multimillion dollar industry of petite bakeries, aka cupcakeries.

At Cupcake Camp was like being an episode of Cupcake Wars. We  – Stephanie and I sought to out to find next best cupcake creators that would give Magnolia Bakery a run for their money.

I’m going to start with the best cupcake of the 20+ vendors there. SHWEET. Shweet makes the best Cocoa Gluten Free, Vegan, Agave Sweetened cupcake I’ve ever tasted. I think they may be better thank Baby Cakes (forgive me but I can’t lie)!

Shweet also make regular cupcakes. I sampled the Strawberry; the cake part was the lightest, most moist bottom I’ve ever tasted. The frosting tasted like a perfectly ripe, balanced, freshly picked strawberry. It was lightly sweet at first luscious lick; the sweetness was followed with the tangy tartness. Yes, Shweet’s strawberry cupcake kicks Sprinkles strawberry cupcake’s sweet ass! You can find Shweet on Twitter or Facebook.

The runners up were:

Love Cakes - The Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake will send you into a coma.

Sweet Things – Cathy Merenda know how to make  the greatest Organic Vegan Peanut Butter Cupcake with Chocolate Ganache.

Sweet Arty - As implied by their name, these little gems (pictured above) are more art than cake. Stephanie could barely contain her lust of these little gems. She proceeded to inhale them so I don’t know which flavor we had.

Hi and thanks for featuring us in your post. However, we are called Sweet Art Cupcakes and not Sweet Arty. Details, details, I know. But as you can tell by the design of our cupcakes, we are sticklers for details. ;) By the way, I am pretty sure you had the vanilla/nutella cupcakes. Again, thanks for the mention, we are so glad that you enjoyed our cupcakes!
