FCUK Launches Video Shopping on YouTube

PSFK and Marie Claire report British apparel brand FCUK (French Connection) launched their own video channel Youtique that allows users to shop shop French Connection apparel via video.

French Connection’s videos feature fashion stylist Louise Roe providing suggestions for different occasions, including A Weekend Away, Wowing At Work, Looking Dazzling At Dinner and A Slick Look in the City. As a user clicks on clothes and accessories worn by each model in the fashion shopping videos, they’re taken to FCUK’s site for more information on the clothing and given apparel purchasing options.

We agree with PSFK’s assessment of the user experience, “While Google’s video hosting site has allowed in-video annotations to connect with other YouTube videos, linking to outside environments have been limited to specific partners. Overall, the videos have received a limited amount of views, and the transaction process still requires users to jump out of the video experience into a different environment. The implications of a seamless video shopping experience are still promising considering Google TV’s announcement.”

Though shoppers must leave video site experience, for a branded  on YouTube, French Connection has created one of the best branded channels we’ve seen yet. Others that have done a great job are Burberry and Nike.
