A Fashionably Digital Guide To Mad Men
We’re simply MAD about Mad Men. What can we say, we just can’t get enough of the show and its seriously killer style, especially that of Christina Hendricks (yeah, we’re Joan Holloway lovers).
Luckily for us, Mad Men isn’t just limited to television. There are tons of Mad Men related apps and even Mad Men Mattel dolls. Furthermore, catering to those customers who want to replicate the looks on the show, sites like Rent the Runway offer 60s retro inspired clothing that will make you look as though you just stepped off of the Mad Men sound stage.
Don’t know where to turn to get your Mad Men fix? Have no fear — FMM is here to give you the Mad Men online and mobile lowdown.
This site lets you create your own Mad Men avatar. You have lots of variety to choose from, whether that’s your physical characteristics (skin tone, body shape, hair color) to your clothing, accessories and background.
You can easily show off your avatar to your Facebook and Twitter friends. This means that you can get the domino effect rolling, getting all your friends decked out in Mad Men clothing. Don’t worry, guys, Mad Men Yourself caters to men’s style, as well.
The site is fun, and it makes me wish everyone dressed as good (and as fun) as this.
Banana Republic’s Mad About Style Guide and Casting Call:
Want to dress like Mad Men? Banana Republic has come out with a Mad Men inspired Mad About Style guide, featuring classic outfits that make men and women look both work appropriate and completely chic.
You can also check out the BananaRepublic.com to envision Mad Men inspired outfits and take advantage of BR.com’s 30 percent discount (redeem code: BRMADNESS).
Not only that, but if you pick up one of the Mad About Style guides, you’ll also get your own casting call entry code. If you play your cards just right and dress right for the part, you just might land a walk on role. The contest ends September 6, so snag your entry code while you can.
The AMC app features videos that offer sneak peeks and inside looks at Mad Men. For instace, one video shows Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant and Banana Republic VP/Creative Director Simon Kneen discussing skirt lengths, modern style and the old fashioned take on dressing up.
You can also read the Man Men blog on the app, which often discusses the incredible clothes the characters are wearing.
The app doesn’t really go beyond the basics and is basically the mobile version of the AMC Mad Men website, but it’s free and runs just great, so it’ll do the trick for an on-the-go Mad Men fix.
Costume Designer Janie Bryant’s MOD Line:
Mad Men Costumer Designer, Janie Bryant, is coming out with a clothing and accessories line for QVC called Janie Bryant MOD.
Bryant’s 60s inspired pieces will range from $26 to $138. QVC will start carrying them on September 29, so when that date rolls around, you should snag your online purchases at QVC.com to make your Mad Men wardrobe complete.
You should also check out your drug store in upcoming months — Mad Men inspired nail polish is on the way.
