Discarded to Divine

Submitted by Stephanie Kwak on 04/04/2010 – 6:35 amComments

Discarded to Divine was started in 2005 by Sally Rosen of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Based in San Francisco, Discarded to Divine takes used, unwanted clothing and household goods and gets designers to transform them into unique and one-of-a-kind couture, and proceeds go to help those in need.  This year, Discarded to Divine is focusing on helping battered women and children in San Francisco get the shelter and services they need.

Fashion designers Discarded to Divine work with range from the emerging to the internationally known.  They accept applications from designers, though the application period for 2010 has ended.  Designers who have worked with Discarded to Divine include Jay Nicholas Sario (of Project Runway fame), On Aura Tout Vu, Jessica McClintock, and the Nice Collective.

There will be a live auction held on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at The Hall at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with tickets starting at $75.
