Designers: Did You Know That Plastic Could Make Your Collection Possible?

Submitted by Macala Wright on 10/15/2009 – 12:36 pmComments

Calling all Innovative Fashion Designers…the Plastics Make it Possible design competition began October 29th. Submissions will be accepted starting on October 29, 2009. Deadline for entry is December 1, 2009. Users will be able to vote on their favorite designs from October 29 to December 15, 2009. Winner will be announced on or around December 21, 2009.

The Contest
Whether it’s polyester, nylon, spandex or Lycra®, the fashion and design world has embraced plastic materials. Plastics Make it Possible aims to inspire designers’ imaginations and allow artists to create pieces that are cutting-edge, on trend, chic, affordable, and even eco-friendly. Without plastic, consumers wouldn’t have faux fur or microfiber, skinny jeans wouldn’t have their stretch, and women wouldn’t have the smooth, comfortable support they’ve come to rely on under their favorite looks.

Plastics Make it Possible and Gen Art are challenging new and established designers to put their creativity to the test and design two dynamic womenswear looks made from fabrics that include plastic-based fibers such as polyester, rayon, nylon and more.

The Prize
The Grand Prize Winner will be obligated to create a sample collection, 10 piece line, utilizing items from the approved materials list to be shown during Gen Art’s New York Winter Fashion Week 2010. The Grand Prize Winner will also receive a $10,000 stipend/award to create the collection and a trip (two days / two nights) for Grand Prize Winner and one (1) guest to New York City, to attend the Fashion Week Event.

Please visit the Gen Art website for The Rules & Contest Requirements

We love it when larger brands and companies foster creativity!

See you in New York.
