Amber, I'm working on a couple more posts shortly - hope you enjoy it, and would love to hear your thoughts!

The exciting thing about community management is that it's one of the more nascent concepts, so we get to craft it as we go. As more and more companies realize that they need community management (because there's more and more online chatter via social networks, blogs, microblogs and forums), the need for community leadership will keep growing. I am so excited that we can all try new things and learn from each other! (I loved your post on the Ultimate CM FAQ on Altitude Branding :)

You're welcome Amber! We love Radian6 and the services it offers retailers. You are absolutely right, being part of a community requires more than the occasional comment and blast into a discussion.

Hi Maria,

Really enjoyed your post and some of the points you make about stewarding a community. As a community person myself, it's always interesting to read the perspectives of other people in this field. I'm learning so much every day and constantly considering new things. Especially for companies that are new or small, I think it's so important to get engaged in a conversation that's above and around your brand; talk about your industry or trends or other things that are of interest to your potential customers so they know that you share their interests. Demonstrating that you're *part* of the community as opposed to just leading it is so very key.

Thanks for the post, and the mention of Radian6!

Cheers,
Amber Naslund
Director of Community, Radian6
@ambercadabra
