Book Report: No One Cares What You Had For Lunch

Submitted by Macala Wright on 04/06/2009 – 6:25 pmComments

I loved writing books reports when I was younger, so I’ve decided to take a modern approach to my elementary school pastime. Here’s my first report.

Book: No One Cares What Your Had for Lunch by Margaret Mason

For those of you seeking ideas on how to a) start a blog, b) make your blog more interesting, or c) just need content perspective, this little gem of a book will make you 50% more effective in your writing, generate at least 1/2 dozen new ideas and cure even the most severe cases of blogger’s block – all in 124 pages! Yes, that means you can read it in one fell swoop and then read it again – for posterity’s sake – in one afternoon.

Synopsis – aka – What I Learned

1. “Come Correct” in what you write.

2. Be someone who leads by example. Do what’s right, not what’s easy.

3. Don’t be afraid to take risks in your writing.

4. Don’t be afraid to start conversation – if someone doesn’t talk about it, who will?

5. You are going to fail, more than once, but each failure brings you closer to your sweet success.

6. #87 is a sage truth: Do what you love & the rest will come.

7. Dear #83, you are right, we need to start reading. Blogs aren’t replacements for books. My idea: Read 2 books, 6 magazines and 12 blogs(religiously) a month. That the start of a good balance.

8. Short bouts of Wanderlust are perfectly acceptable; in fact, the are a requirement for being a writer of any sort. Spending a day – or two – in the world should be done on a monthly basis.

9. Mini realization came at #98: You can kill your brand & your company overnight by turning a deaf ear to social media. You can also kill your online business by cutting customer service, marketing budgets and overworking your most valuable staff.

10. Don’t be afraid to share, #67 – tell us what you’ve done.

Recommended: HIGHLY

Time Required For Reading: 3-4 Hours

Best Parts: #2, 5, 8, 25-27, 30, 31, 47, 51, 59, 66,73, 79, 90 – you just have to read.
